Settlement-Focused Parenting Plan Consultation (SFPPC)

Settlement-Focused Parenting Plan Consultation (SFPPC) is a new mediation approach designed to help divorcing parents and their attorneys create a Parenting Plan that prioritizes the best interests of the children. It’s especially helpful for families facing significant disagreements and considering litigation. Dr. Sanders is a Rule 31 Listed Family Mediator Specially Trained in Domestic Violence approved by the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Why Choose SFPPC?

This process combines mediation with a brief child custody evaluation to:
*  Identify the needs of the children and the strengths of the family.
*  Develop practical solutions that work for everyone.
*  Avoid the emotional and financial toll of a contested divorce.

When families collaborate to create a Parenting Plan, they’re more likely to follow it, ensuring better outcomes for everyone.

How the Process Works

1. Initial Conference Call

If parents have attorneys, the process begins with a short joint call. During this call:
*  Relevant records are identified.
*  Legal issues affecting the Parenting Plan are clarified.

2. Introductory Meeting

Dr. Sanders meets with both parents to:
*  Explain the process.
*  Answer questions.
*  Gather a shared family history.
*  Highlight areas of disagreement.

3. Individual Interviews and Records Review

*  Each parent is interviewed separately.
*  Relevant records are reviewed (e.g., school reports, medical records).
*  Insights are gathered from teachers, doctors, therapists, and babysitters.

4. Children’s Evaluation

*  The children are interviewed to assess their overall well-being and adjustment.
*  Their developmental needs and the impact of the divorce are evaluated.

5. Optional Procedures

*  Psychological testing or other assessments can be included if requested by the parents or attorneys.

6. Final Mediation Meeting

Dr. Sanders meets with the parents and their attorneys.
*  Feedback is provided on the children’s needs and adjustment.
*  Parenting options are presented and discussed.
*  A mutually agreed Parenting Plan is mediated.

If no agreement is reached, no Parenting Plan is written, and parents remain free to pursue litigation. Importantly, Dr. Sanders cannot testify in court for either parent.
